Not exactly the normal fare here, this is a Touhou role-playing game book that was scanned and posted on the /tg/ (Traditional Games) board on 4chan. Someone there translated a few pages of it, but that person appears to have fallen off the internet, and if I were to attempt it all by myself you'd have to measure the progress on a geological time scale. So I submit it here to see if anyone's interested enough to take a stab at it. I'll post the existing translations with the pages.

Lack of familiarity with RPG terms shouldn't be an obstacle; I'll be on hand to make it make sense if there's something confusing. Likewise, I can handle the layout myself, so all I really need is a script translation.

Any tabletop gamers here interested in lending a hand? Or someone who's not into that but is kind enough to help out anyway?

Touhou is a series of original 'bullet hell' shooting games created by the (1-man) circle called Team Shanghai Alice. Many people have become fascinated by the beauty of its bullet curtains, the addictiveness of its soundtrack, and the presentation of its world, and the number of fans continues to increase. About TRPGs:
TRPGs, which stand for Tabletop Role-Playing Games, are games where people gather around a table, talk freely and have fun. Parts of them are like Monopoly or the Game of Life, but basically the objective in RPGs is solving mysteries and completing quests. In other words, in this game you become an inhabitant of Gensokyo, having fun and firing bullet curtains and winning or losing. Because Touhou Bullet Hell Game uses dice to generate random results and has human input in the form of the Game Master and the players, it has, unlike computer games, a flexible gameplay.
If you are a beginner, you should try making a character first. Think of an inhabitant of Gensokyo (the character) that you want to play as. Then, get several friends to make characters as well. Choose one among you to be the Game Master and play through a scenario - surely, you will get a glimpse of Gensokyo there. There is also a link between the official HP of characters and the detailed version used in the RPG. Make sure to review that as well.

Objective of the game:
The objective of this game is to become an denizen of Gensokyo, the terribly mysterious world - developed in the Touhou series of games by Team Shanghai Alice - that has been separated from present-day Japan through a mystical barrier, and run around trying to solve situations (and having fun in the process.) This will involve negotiating with canon Touhou characters, participating in bullet curtain battles (which will involve using your own Spell Cards!) and having a great time with friends in the world of Touhou.

These rules are for entering into your character sheet. There are two methods for creating a character. Quick Start is for those not familiar with TRPGs, while those who are familiar can use Customization. Players should create their characters according to the GM’s instructions. Furthermore, all characters are given 10 Experience Points by default. These are used to select Ordinary Skills.

By using the values from the Sample Character Chart, a character can be created quickly. Of course you will still need to create the character’s personal data. The drawback to this is that there are a set number of sample patterns. To create exactly what you want you will need to use Construction.

Everything here is your decision. This takes more time and effort, but the fun you’ll have is worth it. You should do this if you’re used to the system.

Yes, pages 14/16/18/20/22/24/26/28 really do say almost exactly the same things in the on-page Japanese and English text, so the translations are almost pointless. The only difference is the page titles, which use more normal kanji names, while the names below in English are frequently the scientific names (not always -- "Rote Rosa" is just silly, and what they're probably referring to is rosa rugosa, the Japanese Rose).

Any other translators want to lend a hand, here's another call for 'em. I figure if I keep periodically bumping this with work, it might attract someone -- and if it doesn't, well, it's still work being done, so it'll be finished eventually.

No intent of stopping; more than anything else, I want this translated so I can play. Always good to have a translator with personal investment in it. エモノ in this case is basically "Weapon". It's a short statement (one word, usually) of what the character fights with. It's mostly just flavor; there's no particular rules associated with different weapons (which is good given the wide variety of things Touhou characters fight with).

About Substyle Seed cards :
The Substyle is made of 5 different types shown below. This isn't all of them, so if necessary the GM can make others. Also, more details can be found in the "Touhou Kyuubun shiki"

Ghost: Some years ago, a part of Gensoukyou was connected to the Netherworld, and so compared to before this race has increased in number. Most take on the form of humans, but on rare occasions they take unnameable forms as well. Don't touch those they are dangerous. Most look like an old man enjoying tea in a garden.
Appearing Unexpectedly: "Improvement of ability on the flower platform" Ghosts may move one square diagonally on the flower platform. They may jump over anything but ghosts, as well.

"Demons" : These are a minority in Gensoukyou, but most of them have powers greater than youkai. The most famous Demons in Gensoukyou live in a mansion on the lake called the Scarlet Demon Mansion.
Immortality: Useable 1/Scenario. Negate any damage applied to them.

Fairies: These are the most numerous in Gensoukyou. However, they individually don't have much power or influence, nor can they do much damage, either. They are VERY curious, and often pull pranks or cause problems.

Naivety: They take their damage at the beginning of the turn AFTER it would be applied.

Humans: "There are some humans that live in Gensoukyou. However, humans mentioned here are somewhat different than humans as we think about them normally. This is because most humans do not have powers or techniques. Most are very specialized, and in their specialty can be even more powerful than any of the other races.

Old Bloodlines: In some manner they can jump(/fly). Against non-humans, they can voluntarily force them into a "shockwave judgement(?) (If the shockwave sheet comes up as 2, roll again)

I've been doing this on the pages I've translated, just so I can more easily check my work against internet dictionaries and machine translation and such (it's sort of backwards to do it that way, but I'm not very good at this to begin with, so it's more helpful to me than it might be to other, more Japanese-capable sorts). The issue is that it's difficult and time-consuming, particularly since the scans are sometimes blurry and such other difficulties. Is there any sort of (preferably freeware) software that could OCR the text? It'd be much faster and easier to double-check that than to do it all by hand, as I've been doing thus far.

Don't ask why I've been away for so long. The answer is mostly "laziness". I'll be checking in here a bit more often, at least, to see the consensus about wiki'ing this thing, and to get back to working on this when I can.

I've been translating things here and there amongst the book, translating whatever I've felt like and trying to get a feel of the system in general. flowersでは弾幕遊戲(弾幕ごっこ)という形での、いわゆる戦闘を行う。

Okay, time to shamelessly ask for help again. I'm working on all the skills. I've gotten through the Specific Skills (Skills for Race/Flower cards), and all the General Skills (Ordinary skills). I'm having trouble with a few of the Special Skills. All of these have some game effect; like one of them gives you +1 to all dodge rolls, another makes it so that whenever another PC rolls a critical, you can gift them 5 of your Tension.

Here are the the three I can't figure out or would like a second opnion on.

Okay, I get Love Confession. Dream within Amber I was thinking that you use it and the Judgement favors the other party, but I guess it makes you tie the judgement, and both of you succeed? (In the case of attacks, the damage received is equal to the Attack Roll - Defense Roll, max 10, so that would make it so that you didn't get any damage.)

And then Marriage. It's the one the puzzles me the most. Yes, in Judgements, you roll 2d6, and if double sixes come up, it's a critical. I remember back to one game I played, some mechanic of it was that when you rolled a six, it counted as +1 success and you got to re-roll that die. (though I can't for the life of me remember what game it was) So it could be if you roll a critical, you get to roll again. But the first part in there has something about two people besides yourself, which is probably where the reason for the name Marraige comes in. Also, this line from the Glossary might help;
ゾロ目:ダイスの目がそろっていること。
Or it might just state what you already knew.

I liked all the General Skills better... the descriptions of those were mostly flavor text... Though if we get these last ones translated, I'll have ALL of the skills translated.

I agree with you on marriage- my wording for 6ゾロ2連続で成功 was awkward, and I think you summarized it better- when you roll double 6s (a critical), you get that +1 success and can continue to roll again.

There is a similar mechanic in another game (a d6 system) where, as you said, if a 6 is rolled it counts as a critical and you can roll again. I think it was called a 'wild die' system.

The first part あなた以外の2名を両想いにできる just says "with the exception of yourself, two other characters can fall in love" - it is confusing, like you say. Maybe your character is being the 'priest' for two other characters? I think it doesn't affect the rest of play really- just flavor.

On Dream within Amber I agree with your conclusion- it forces a tie on the number of successes (though, if there are other influencing factors it would seem to still depend on those bonuses, so maybe it just neutralizes the dice rolling?)

Oh, a couple things I didn't bother to mention is that these three skills in question are "Useable once a Scenario" and that (being Special Skills), they all have an EXP cost to aquire. (Marrage = 3 exp, Dream within Amber = 10, Declaration of Love = 6)

So the effect of Marriage is that you get to roll again after rolling a critical, and you make two people fall in love.
And with a cost of 10 exp, I'd think for Dream within Amber that the judgement is tied AFTER all the skill affects are applied.

Okay, just a couple reactions on the Specific Skills (Since there was a later page with them on it, so I've already opinions on them). I of course, cannot complain about the things I haven't translated and had no want to translate!

For Skilled Speaker; (Orator)
This is a mistake I too made. It's not that you get +1 in a General Skill Judgement, but rather that in in General Judgement, you get +1 Skill Combinations. Towards a General Judgement, you may use at most two skills to modify the Achievement Value. Will this skill, you'd get to use at most three.

And for the other one, it's just "During Tension Judgement, gain 1d6 more Tension", right?

So pages 56-57. I got the rest of them, but there's a pair of tables for random generation of character Nicknames and a pair of tables for random birth generation (character backstory). OOoooo how I'm not looking forward to them. 180 small phrases over all of the tables. And the scan blurs out a column of the birth table, though it's not too bad. Yay more stuff done! Though I'm ashamed to admit that I have nothing right now. Blame Sid Meyer for one, and my computer eating all my new data for another.

But I did look at the thing labeled as errata that I had, and all of them were already in the scans. (perhaps the scans were the second release?)

Oh wow, I didn't realize someone else had picked up translation on this. I found out shortly after making the above English pages that I kind of suck as a translator, and then finals hit and I forgot about this entirely. This is all very cool.

If no one else is at it, I'll start making more English pages of the translated parts within the next couple weeks.

Message to anyone else working on this; This translation for Old Bloodlines is kinda incorrect. I finally got to the GM section and the tables therein, and one of the tables is the one you use for the Old Bloodlines specific skill. Instead of "shockwave", it should be translated "impulse". The power allows you to randomly determine first impulsive reaction of a human towards a non-human and vice-versa. If I didn't leave it on my other flash drive, I'd upload the table. I guess you'll have to wait until I get my act together/when I upload it with the rest of my work.

On the bright side, I think that this next bunch of stuff I will upload will be the last that is needed to play the game!

There's the last I'm gonna do. Like many translators before me, and many after me; life has caught up to me, and I'm gonna be busy again. This last bit should make the game playable, but I've no time to translate the sample scenario. Also, I didn't bother with the "Master Sheet" (page 63). It's not strictly nesscessary for playing; it's just a sheet for the GM to keep track of things on.

That's that then. I doubt I'll ever get around to translating anything else for this, but, hey, in a year, you never know...though hopefully someone else will do the rest.

I edited and compiled the rest of the pages...so hopefully it works and is easier to view. I also translated the scenario and others, but not the character profiles on page 53-56. Maybe later if I have time (it is busy examination time right now for me). Maybe I will do those with the Replay for a bigger release... But for now this is the whole thing. Of course, please suggest changes and edits.

It has been fun working on this with everyone. Thank you for the hard work!
