Alright, here's what I think. This is not directed at any one person.
Anyone is allowed to TL. We have our reasons - to practice, to pass time, to make a name etc. Thus, not all of us will be equally good.
Releasing a bad TL is demoralizing, but not a crime. Readers who care little for strict language, and just want the outline, will be satisfied. TLers will be reluctant to pick it up because it's less of a challenge, or because it is like hijacking someone's party. Weak TLers like myself translate the story so as to understand it, so there is little reason to TL. So it's true that a poor TL can mean a better TL won't appear. Keyword being "can".
If you have always wanted great TL, I understand because I can't stand bad English, even though my own English is imperfect. I'm not being elitist - bad English just takes too much effort to decipher. A language is made for communication, and standards are defined for that reason. So, what can you do?
1) Contact the TLer. Point out, strictly but not harshly, his mistakes, or simply tell him that he has mistakes. Remember that English may not even be his native language. Don't vent, because he never intended to anger you. His only "crime" was being fast or having time. He may decide to release another version.
2) Bump the Voile thread, as you would a normal thread. Someone may reference the first TL, or make a new TL. Just credit if needed.
3) Correct the English, or TL yourself, and post for editing by your chosen group, such as Voile. You may not have the time or ability to TL. But if you're good enough to be irritated by the English, you can make a new version. You can be the change you want to see in the world. I say this line with a lot of regret and bitterness that I hope you'll never have to use when advising others with this same line.
I don't think this argument needs to or ought to grow any larger. This is Gaku's project page, not the Debates Club. Avenues exist for that - /jp/, MotK, Wakaba, Youtube, your local anime club, or the pub. Also, the Gaku brand's only responsibility is to release good releases. It's not competing to be the first, correct another group, or to release everything. So the kind of politics and flaming that plagues anime fansubbers need never arise here.
Hopefully, this comes across as sharp but not condescending. Hopefully, I have not overstepped my bounds - being both new and on hiatus, I have no authority to speak on behalf of Voile. Also, please don't reply. If you must, just start a thread on the alternatives mentioned earlier, but I won't be participating.
Gokigenyo ;)
